If you know me, or ask anyone who knows me, I'm a total klutz. I'm known to lose my balance, trip on my feet, run into closed doors, and I drop things- allllll the time. (Which probably isn’t great because I carry people’s food to their tables for a living) For this reason, I have gone through I believe 4 phones in the last three years. So recently I decided to buy myself the biggest and most sturdy case I could find, it has like three layers of shock proof walls and a built in screen protector, I'm pumped to say the least. I don't want my precious lifesaver to get broken again. That being said, I believe that the world can be separated into two major categories; those who cover their phones with cases, and those who do not.
My poor past phones had a match with the natural enemy: the ground. A few times they were able to with stand the blow with a little scratch or dent, but once is all it took for the screen to shatter at impact. It left me feeling very helpless and wondering what my dad was going to say when i told him what had happened, and thinking of all the possible scenarios that i could explain to him- My top was, "Well, Dad, You see, I was walking down the sidewalk to work when BOOM! an asteroid came down from space and hit the phone right out of my hand." I decided that he probably wouldn’t believe that.
Just like our phones, we have a natural enemy that one day we are destined to meet. Now granted luckily, we won’t physically shatter, but probably emotionally. At some point we are going to have to encounter our enemy, and we need to be ready to defeat him, to take the pressure so that we won’t crack under pressure. God supplied us with a great image in the bible called the Armor of God. It goes like this, "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” God has supplied his people with everything they need to defeat our natural enemy; we must just learn to use our armor. "Put on the armor," wrote Paul in his letter to the Romans, "...clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 13:12-14) When you do, He becomes your hiding place and your shelter in the storm -- just as He was to David. Hidden in Him, you can count on His victory, for He not only covers you as a shield, He also fills you with His life.
"I am the vine; you are the branches," said Jesus. "If a man abides in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)
Since living in the safety of the armor means unity with Jesus, we can expect to share His struggles as well as His peace. As Jesus suffers, we too suffer. We have to remember he dealt with the sins of the whole world in all of existence. We cannot “be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you, but rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ..." (1 Peter 4:12-13)
Christians who face prosecution for their faith continue to affirm to the incredible courage and strength, even happiness, that enables them to endure the pain. They have peace with Paul, "that in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.... For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers.... will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:37-39)
This is the incredible love that we receive when we accept Jesus as our savior. For when you put on His armor, His love surrounds you and keeps you safe in Him. He is your best friend, and you are His! So put on Christ. He is your strength and He is your victory!
So i guess it all comes down to when you come in contact with the ground, will you be the phone with a case, to protect all you have to offer? Or will you be vulnerable to the damage? You choose..
