Luke 10:27 // “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, and with all your strength”
"For the church, the first means of evangelization is the witness of an authentically Christian life..” –Pope Paul VI
Its pretty plain & clear- it starts with us and the way we live our lives. We must be authentic. We must show the world joy, bring them real happiness and learn to love, with all of our heart, all of our mind, and all of our soul. And that’s easier said than done. Being real with someone isn’t always the easiest thing to do, and sometimes seems to bring sorrow. But there's a saying I’ve heard a lot, that says “if it isn’t good, it isn’t the end. Because the end is good.” Apply that to your life. Think of all the things that stop you from loving Jesus with your entirety and give it to him in an offering, tell him to take it from you. Ask him to fill the hole with his love, and he will, as his love for you is immeasurable.
Real talk though- I bet one of the things that came to your mind about hindering your relationship from Jesus had something to do with jealousy, or a person that holds you back, or comparison, or envy, even lust. You know what kinda ties all those things together in a way that before our generation, didn’t exist? Our phones, social media, technology- pretty much the world wide web circle of the lovely internet. Now do not jump on me here, my phone is glued to me most of the time, but I want you to think about this for a moment.
Compare your spiritual life to your phone.
We’re going to start with the battery because without it, your phone couldn’t even turn on. When our battery is on full, we’re able to spend as much time as we want on our phones because, ya know, full charge & free range-life is good. The day continues on, we’ve gone to lunch with our friends, went shopping, practice, and our battery hits 20%. The low power notification shines on your screen and panic ensues. Imagine your battery as your relationship with Jesus. Your prayer life, is your charging cord. And i'm Sure you’ve all heard that rumor that if you don’t charge your phone to its full capacity each time and just plug it in for a few minutes here and there, it starts to wear on the battery. Make sure that you aren’t just plugging into jesus when you need him most, but that you go to him in all of the points in your life. Especially to thank Him when times are good.
Now I don’t know about you but at least 50% of my data plan each month goes to snapchat, because hey, who doesn’t love to add a weird filter to your face that makes you puke rainbows? Its entertaining, don’t try to hide it. Now imagine yourself having a snapchat streak with Jesus. Imagine in the 197 day snapchat streak you have with your best friend, was a 1,970 day snapchat streak with Jesus. That would be awesome. And that should be our goal. Just like we check in with our friends all day, we should check in with Jesus. Talk to him like he’s your best friend & give him the lay down on your life.
Today is Monday, which means that in less than two days, the church will enter into the season of lent. During this time, we sacrifice things that we feel are interfering with our personal relationships. Love is a sacrifice, so is faith. So picture it like your data usage, if you want to have enough battery to get yourself home, maybe don’t spend so much time on Instagram, gawking over other people. Likewise, this Lenten season, try to spend your spiritual batteries helping someone else get home to Jesus, instead of using your energy on the things of the world.
I pray that you all can find something to bring you closer to Jesus this lent, and don’t forget to charge up so that you can give directions to those seeking our savior.
Blessings & Love, Erika
